The San Jacinto Mountains seem to be a symbol of strength, and of things that are bigger than humans. A few moments with the mountains can give a person a new perspective.
I have been accustomed to seeing this range as represented on the left, based on a photograph from summer of 2014, a dry, massive granite wall. Then one afternoon recently I found myself drawn to the window again and again. The changing light of the sun was casting shadows of the clouds onto the mountains, revealing depth and contours, and also highlighting the new growth from the recurring rains, bringing color to the landscape. This change is represented on the right, based on a photograph from winter 2017.
It took several seasons for this change to become evident. This is to me a reminder that if one is quiet and keeps watching, things will look different, even though it may take a while.
